A guide to coastal erosion management practices in Europe: lessons learned

New Zealand and the Cape Coast are not alone in when it comes to having to deal with coastal erosion; so what can we learn form other countries and communities?

 

Here is a report prepared by the National Institute of Coastal and Marine Management of the Netherlands for the Directorate General Environment, European Commission, identifying what has been learnt from many decades of dealing with coastal erosion on the European Continent.

 

One of their conclusions that seems particularity pertinent for the Cape Coast is that "Multi-functional technical designs, i.e. which fulfills social and economical functions in addition to coastal protection, are more easily accepted by local population and more viable economically.
